Wine

Wine plays many roles in our world, from social through to religious. Its’ consumption dates all the way back to c. 7000 BC, in China. In other parts of the world like Greece, where the Ancient Greeks worshipped Dionysus (the god of wine), they considered an imbibed state religious. This tradition was happily adopted by the Romans and it has also gained ritualistic practice in modern beliefs, like Catholicism.

The Culture of Drinking Wine

In the words of Louis Pasteur: “Wine is the most healthful and most hygienic of beverages.” But, to be fair, the wine in those days was vastly different from the wine you would purchase today. With the emergence of viticulture, winemakers have learned how to tweak the alcohol content in the wine, which led to the emergence of stronger or “boozier” wines than the varieties previously enjoyed.

Aside from the rich history behind the fermented grape, wine is also an integral part of modern culture. We pair it with fine dining meals, and we have allowed it to shape part of our identity. A ladies’ night out will see the wine flowing as freely as a ladies’ night in.

Low alcohol Wine for the Health Conscious

How can we embrace this vibrant and trendy culture while we keep our bodies healthy and remain fully accountable? There’s no need to compromise on taste or quality, as low alcohol and alcohol-free wine is a growing category, that has some real rising stars appearing. It’s as sophisticated as it swirls in its glass. It’s as aromatic, flavourful, and rich as the regular wine our cultures have been enjoying for centuries. And, just like regular wine, it’s all about identifying the brand and the variety that syncs with your tastes.
